Michelle's garden, below, includes large jungle like plants such as cordyline, chamaerops and the tender fern like plant - dicksonia antarctica. In Britain they'll need some protection in winter, such as being wrapped in horticultural fleece.

Fiona's traditional, cottage style garden, includes herbs, tulbaghia, ipomea and lavender. The lavender is planted close to the water feature. The moisture picks up the lavender's scent which then permeates throughout the garden.

Dave and Alistair, pictures 1 and 2 below are not keen gardeners. Dave doesn't really want plants but Charlie insists. She gives him guidance on how to care for the juniper that will soften the hard edges of his garden. Alistair just want it all to be over. Charlie plants a rowan which she says is ideal for small gardens, as it has a non aggressive root system. His Finnish garden also includes sedums and sempervivum. Both require well drained soil.

Allan and Deborah's garden includes vine and ornamental quince (chaenomeles) - pictures 3 and 4 above. Charlie plants John and Cynthia's Japanese garden with imperata grass, acers and bamboo.
